Trust the process

There is a reason why losing weight, doing a PhD, building a career, or implementing a strategy is difficult.

Usually the logic is simple. Define the objective. Make the right choices. Build the routine. Do the work. Stay consistent long enough for the effort to compound.

The problem is that we often expect the result to appear before the process has had enough time to work.

After one month of dieting, the scale does not move as expected. After a few months of research, the doctorate still looks like a pile of disconnected ideas. After the first quarter of a transformation, the business still behaves very much like the old business.

That is usually the dangerous moment because we start losing patience with it.

Yes, you need to question a bad process. If the thinking was weak, the assumptions were wrong, or the execution is poor, patience becomes an excuse.

But when the process has been properly thought through, clearly defined, and consistently executed, judging it too early is often the real mistake.

Results are not always linear. Progress is often invisible before it becomes obvious. Many things that look like failure in the short term are simply the normal delay between effort and outcome.

That is true in health, in education, in careers, and in strategy.

If every early disappointment leads to a new plan, nothing ever has enough time to work.
